MILWAUKEE-- Wisconsin utility supplier We Energies is looking into the future.

Solar power projects are now feeding 5 megawatts into the energy grid, enough to power more than 1,000 homes with clean, renewable energy. Officials announced the achievement on Tuesday.

Working with partners across the state, the utility company completed projects with several school districts statewide.

Under the "Solar Now" program, the company partners with large businesses, nonprofits and government customers to host solar panels.

The company leases the space for the panels on roofs and unused land. The clean energy that is produced serves all customers within the We Energies network.

“We are excited to be part of this innovative program,” said Mike Trimberger, District Administrator at Ramom Lake School District.
