KENOSHA — In Kenosha, locals and supporters of Jacob Blake rallied together for 24 hours to support the 29-year-old and to call for the termination of the officer who shot Jacob Blake, Rusten Sheskey.
“We can’t let up we need to keep pressing DA Graveley and we need that indictment and we need that termination,” said Organizer Tanya McLean.
Speakers passionately spoke about their own experiences with racism and police brutality. Lamar Whitfield CEO and Founder of the No More Foundation, an organization that helps men heal from trauma, drove from Chicago to Kenosha to support the Blake Family.
“This is a cause, this is about Blacks like, Jacob Blake, Breonna Taylor, this is to remind people that this is the actual way that we did it back in the days. We allowed our voice to be heard by coming together,” said Whitfield.
Justin Blake, Jacob Blake’s uncle said he will be relentless in his fight for justice. He said they chose Civic Center Park, located across from the Kenosha County Courthouse for a reason.
”We came across to come on their battleground, their front yard, to let them know that this isn’t just a rally, we are not going anywhere until we get an indictment on the officer that shot my nephew seven times in the back,” said Justin Blake.
On August 23, Jacob Blake was shot seven times by officer Rusten Sheskey. According to the Associated Press, Sheskey’s lawyer said his client believed Jacob Blake was attempting to abduct one of his own children, a claim that Justin Blake disputes.
“They moved on to a kidnapping, a story it took them 30 days to come up with, please stop it, we are not asleep at the wheel we are watching everything,” said Justin Blake.
