Look for more orange construction barrels as President Donald Trump is proposing a trillion dollar infrastructure investment over 10 years.
?
On Thursday Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow will visit the White House for an infrastructure listening session with the president.
?
TODAY’S TMJ4 caught up with Farrow before he left town.
"So this Highway 59, this is going to be a four-way a four-lane bypass, said County Executive Paul Farrow.
When he navigates through the road construction in his county he sees progress.
Farrow says with infrastructure comes growth in the economic base and job creation.
?
He says the two needs he hears from local businesses wanting to grow is a good workforce and good roads.
?
"It wasn't we need buses, it wasn't really transit out here," Farrow said. "It's we need safe roads for employees to get to work and for us to move our commerce back-and-forth."
?
But frustration also settles in when Farrow talks about projects like the Highway 59 expansion.
?
It includes county, state and federal dollars, which come with what he calls more red tape.
?
"In order to get this done we had to have a sign off by the Army Corps of Engineers. We had the EPA sign off on the Army Corps of Engineers program, we had to have studies done to see if there are any endangered species in the area, all that took six years," Farrow said.
?
Farrow has a message for the White House and everyone listening in the room on federally funded projects.
?
"Let us take care of it. Give us the money to reduce the number of strings," he said. "We know we want to keep the environment safe. We will, we want to keep everything clean. We also have to be effective with it."
?
The White House says the listening session with mayors and governors will cover issues such as rural infrastructure, transformative projects, drinking and wastewater, transportation, and energy.
