MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he won't run for office in 2022 after he accepted a full-time job running a national conservative youth organization.

Walker tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in a story published Monday that the job as president of the Young America's Foundation will prevent him from running for his old job as governor or for U.S. Senate in 2022.

The Republican Walker had been openly considering both options after he lost his re-election bid for a third term as governor last year.

Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson has not said if he will seek a third term in 2022. He's also considering running for governor.

Walker's term as president of the Young America's Foundation begins in 2021. The group works to promote conservative ideas among young people.
