USPS Christmas deadlines are approaching

MILWAUKEE — Viewers responded in droves to our stories about USPS package delays, many of them telling us they had the same experiences that we documented in our Tuesday night story.

MORE COVERAGE:

Packages are taking longer than the promised delivery time just to get to the Oak Creek sorting facility. Some packages seemingly in limbo in the facility.

One viewer, Russel, said: "I have two packages that are listed as being in Oak Creek. One is my heart medication. I have been waiting 10 days now."

Kathleen from Brookfield sent a package to Sacramento, CA, saying: "Five days later, it arrived in Oak Creek. It then went to Honolulu, HI and is still in transit. Will it need to quarantine when it finally arrives, given its extensive travels?”

We asked the USPS specific questions about delays in Oak Creek, and received a response that was lacking in specifics.

USPS spokesperson Bob Sheehan said, “We are working our available resources to match the workload created by the impacts of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, coupled with considerable increase in holiday package volumes.”

As part of our story we decided to put the system to the test. We mailed three packages Priority 2-day mail to our Scripps sister stations KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona and WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida as well as our news partners at WISC in Madison.

Postal workers told us despite the 2-day priority mail designation that we should expect them to take four days with current delays. We will be tracking them and update you as they make it to their destination.

You can track the packages we sent to the three cities below, using the USPS tracking function on their website. Just copy the tracking number below and paste it into the USPS tracking function, to find out if the packages are on time, or not.
