The Wausau Police Department rescued a suicidal man who was threatening to jump into the Wisconsin River.

Police received a call on Thursday about a man in Wausau walking through yards and acting erratically. When police arrived on the scene they learned that the man was suicidal.

At one point, the man went into the river up to his midsection and climbed out. He threatened to jump in again if officers came near him.

Police worked together to convince the man to stay away from the water, and when the man jumped in they had the Wausau Fire Department on the scene with an airboat to get the man medical attention.

The incident was recorded by police body cameras.

"The best part about being a police officer is every day we have the opportunity to have a positive impact in the lives of others in our community," said the police department.
