A woman shot on the city’s north side Monday night is pleading for healing in her community after a particularly violent Memorial Day weekend.

The victim, La'Shae Allen, says she was an innocent bystander driving to the store when she was shot near 85th Street and Brown Deer Road.

"I'm very grateful, very grateful to be alive. It's opened up my eyes," Allen said.

Speaking to TODAY'S TMJ4 with bullet fragments still in her shoulder, Allen says what she experienced Monday night was traumatizing.

"I thought I was going to die," she said.

Allen is just one of 15 people injured from Memorial Day weekend shootings. Over the weekend, Milwaukee had 15 different incidents with four shooting deaths.

"I had just rolled my window down and the bullet went right through my window and hit me," she said.

"This was broad daylight and I literally saw the guy with his arm extended out…," she also said.

And it almost cost the life for this mother who just graduated with a bachelor's degree in social work from UW-Milwaukee last week. She was supposed to have an interview for a job Tuesday morning.

"Although I was shot and in horrific pain, I wanted to get up and go to that interview," Allen said.

But that will have to wait as she heals from her injuries.

Now, Allen just wants her city to heal, as well.

"The gun violence in Milwaukee is bad, it's horrible, it's getting bad out here, anything can happen. I was just a passerby," she said.

"Anybody with a platform needs to get involved. Anybody who has that platform to where they can speak and they know they can reach one person, they need to be speaking and doing something," Allen also said.

A 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting and police are still investigating.
