UWM student robbed at gunpoint near Kenwood and Newhall

MILWAUKEE — A UWM student was robbed at gunpoint near Kenwood and Newhall on Monday night.

Students received a safety alert from campus police informing them of the incident about 11:40 p.m. According to the alert, the victim was approached by a male with short dreadlocks, wearing a red sweatshirt and in a red, four-door sedan.

Danny Keane lives near where the robbery happened. He said when he woke up this morning and saw the alert, he was shocked to see to the robbery happened on his block. Keane said the area is normally quiet.

"We have never had any trouble. I and my roommate were talking and we said this was the first one like this whole year that we have had anywhere around here," said Keane.

Student Alex Mac moved to Milwaukee from Chicago. He said he gets UWM alerts almost weekly.

"It's just not secure in our campus area," said Mac.
