The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has introduced a policy banning tobacco products from the campus, following a trend from other Wisconsin colleges.

Starting the first day of the spring semester, the UWM will officially be smoke- and tobacco-free campus.

Marquette University introduced the same policy in 2017 and other UW schools have also implemented the initiative to combat the side effects associated with smoking and tobacco use.

E-cigarettes and chewing tobacco are also included in this ban and the policy will be enforced on the main campus, associated buildings and residence halls.

According to UWM's website, those caught using tobacco products "will be more likely cited for policy violations or face disciplinary processes through their employer or the dean's office."
