Unattended candle causes house fire in Racine

RACINE — The Racine Fire Department responded to a fire at a home in Racine Sunday that was caused by a burning candle.

Smoke and flames were coming out of the bedroom on the second floor of a home at 1900 Linden Ave. The fire department extinguished the fire in less than a minute.

No one was injured by the fire. The estimated damage is $5,000.

The Racine Fire Department reminds residents not to leave candles burning unattended and don't remove batteries from smoke alarms. Racine residents who need batteries or smoke alarms, call 262-635-7915.
