An extended Milwaukee family is grieving after two teen cousins were killed in a north side car crash Friday night.

It happened around 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of N. 35th St. and W. Keefe Ave.

Police say a vehicle with four teens inside was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control and started to slide. The vehicle struck a tree, split in half and ejected all four individuals from the vehicle.

The driver and front seat passenger were hospitalized and are expected to survive, but two 15-year-old cousins sitting in the backseat — Latrey Hale and Demetrius Lamond Batchelor, Jr., — died in the crash.

Tammy Hale spoke to TODAY’S TMJ4 from Children’s Hospital, where one of her sons was still being treated.

She said the boys were leaving the basketball court when the accident happened and weren’t in a stolen car.

“I believe everybody knows Latrey, knows he's very very educated and intelligent. he loves to play basketball. he loves all sports and he loves to do things with his family,” Hale said.

Latrey Hale was about to start his sophomore year at Bradley Tech.
