In Cudahy, the Sheridan Park pool hasn't even had a chance to open this season.
“I saw the trucks and I wondered why it was closed," said Elaine Scott of Racine who takes her grandchildren to the pool.
And while Cudahy waits, another pool that had mechanical issues last week is back in business. The happy sounds of summer have had a little interruption in Milwaukee County.
“On Wednesday morning, we woke up quite early in the morning to discover that water was coming into our basement," said Mary Pluta with Friends of Hoyt Park and Pool.
That instantly shut down Hoyt Park pool. Knowing the breakdown happened at an inopportune time, Pluta says everyone -- including the fire department -- worked together to get it fixed in just two days.
"Wauwatosa fire department responded so quickly to our call for help," Pluta said. "They shut off the power so that we would make sure that no one who was going into the basement had a chance of being injured from electricity."
Aquatics in other parks are taking a bit longer to repair. Elaine Scott drove past the Sheridan Park pool in Cudahy Tuesday, wondering why it hadn't opened yet.
“I was kind of sad," Scott saud. "I wondered if something was wrong, repairs or whatever."
It also brings back memories for the longtime resident.
"It’s nostalgic," said Scott. "I’ve been coming here for about 50 years and I thought, 'Oh, I hope they didn’t close forever because parks are always cutting.'"
A Milwaukee County parks spokesperson says they had a burst pipe, but expect it will be repaired in time to open Cudahy's pool this weekend. However, that is not soon enough for 12-year-old Jovanni Roman.
“And I like the slides and what they have to offer here," Roman said.
Roman and his younger cousin, Myalicia Morales, had hoped to go swimming at Sheridan Park Tuesday.
In Oak Creek, more disappointment. The new splash pad at Drexel Town Square is closed. There were complaints that the cement was too slippery when wet.
We reached out to Oak Creek to talk about their splash pad, but didn't hear back. Their Facebook page says they're reviewing the site to ensure the safety of all.
