MILWAUKEE -- Students at UW-Milwaukee could begin moving into university housing on Tuesday morning.

The University estimates almost 4,000 students, 3,000 of them freshmen, will move into dormitories in the coming days.

Anaibeth Macias, of Stickney, Illinois, drove her daughter to Milwaukee and helped her move in to Sandburg Residence Hall.

“It’s a little bit of everything, but mostly exciting,” said freshman Rosellie Macias.

“I feel like in three days I’ll already be missing some stuff about home, like the food,” she joked.

“It’s sad to leave her here,” said Anaibeth Macias. “But it’s fine. I’m happy for her, and I’m proud of her.”

Also moving in Tuesday morning was freshman Jaime Kazmierski, a recent graduate of Greendale High School.

“I’m very excited to start the year,” Kazmierski said. “College is very different from high school, I’ve heard, so I’m just excited for what’s coming.”

Having successfully moved her belongings up to her room on the 25th floor of Sandburg Hall, Kazmierski said the challenge was now organizing them.

“I’m pretty sure I can sort everything out,” she said. “Keeping it organized, that could be the problem."

Kazmierski’s mother, Cari Herman, said Jaime is the first of her children to go to college. She hopes to become a nurse.

“I’m nervous to be sending her off to college, but I trust in her,” Herman said.

Classes at UW-Milwaukee start September 5.
