MILWAUKEE — MILWAUKEE — A 19-year-old Milwaukee man was shot and killed just in front of Swing Park early Saturday morning near where Water St. meets Brady.
According to family, the young man was Jamal Abdullahi.
His mother, Veronica Davis, showed up to the park trying to figure out what had happened.
"He's dead. Now I gotta sit and plan a funeral for my only kid. He's dead. You think you will go before your kids," said Davis.
Milwaukee Police say the shooting was a result of an argument.
They're still searching for unknown suspects.
Davis told TMJ4 the last thing she heard about her son while he was alive, was that he was riding bikes with a friend from around 7 p.m. on Friday.
Then, around 6 a.m. this morning, police showed up at her door with the news her son had been shot in the chest and died.
"And I wanna know why. Who shot him," she said. "Why? What was the reason? Cause he's not a problem kid. He never gave me any problems."
The teen's grandmother, Mary Theresa Davis, said their family is holding a barbecue for Abdullahi on Saturday in his honor.
People living near the park says there's often loud and sometimes violent groups of people just steps from their doors, and the police rarely, if ever, enforce the park's posted 10 p.m. curfew.
Alderman Nik Kovac, who represents the 3rd District, where Abdullahi was killed, called Swing Park a "beautiful park well used by the community."
"It's just terrible when you see these public spaces that people wanna use and feel safe in. For anyone to lose their life anywhere is a tragedy," said Kovac.
