WASHINGTON COUNTY — The Washington County SWAT team was called to help evacuate three children from a home where the father is suspected of firing a gun shot indoors early Saturday evening.

Around 4 p.m. on Saturday The Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance on Hunter's Lane in the Town of Wayne.

The caller, the suspect's wife, said there was an altercation at the house. During the altercation, the husband fired a gun shot inside of the house, according to officials. Family members began to flee the house when the husband did this. However, three children two 6-month-olds and a 3-year-old were still inside.
A second gun shot was heard outside of the home when the second deputy arrived. Law enforcement entered the home and found all three children safe and unharmed.

According to the Sheriff's Office, they activated the Washington County SWAT team because they were unaware and cautious of the mental status of the suspect and were unsure of where he was. They used the vehicle to safely get the children out of the home and to a safe location.

After a relatively short search, officials found and arrested the suspect about 1.7 miles away from the home where the incident occurred. He will be charged soon officials said.
