MILWAUKEE -- Police have released surveillance video of a hit-and-run crash that killed a Milwaukee man as the search for suspects continues.
Hector Hernandez, 36, lost his life after he was hit by a reckless driver blowing past a red light and barreling down Muskego Avenue. The crash and its aftermath was all captured on surveillance by a local convenience store owner. Hernadez was driving east on Becher Street when hew as hit by another vehicle traveling south on Muskego.
Hernadez was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Police say the people inside the striking car ran off.
“After they hit the car, their car kind of spun out and they left on foot," Mallory Demmith said.
“I am so angry," Nicole Demmith said.
"How dare you do something like that and rip him away from his family," she also said.
Hernadez's sisters Nicole and Mallory Demmith worked with other neighbors to pull Hernandez from his burning vehicle, but once at the hospital, he died from his injuries.
“This accident [should] not have occurred," Alderman Bob Donovan said.
"This poor victim would be walking the streets today had these individuals not broken the law, were not speeding and did not run the red light," he also said.
According to police, the suspect's vehicle was not reported stolen and they are still working to find the driver and make arrests.
