Officials say there is no threat to the community after Waukesha County deputies shot a suicidal man who was armed with a rifle.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department said a report of a 37-year-old suicidal man armed with a rifle was called in just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Officials said that initial reports had said the man had poured gasoline on himself. The sheriff's department responded to the scene and the man was located was outside of his home in Waukesha.
Three deputies were involved in the shooting, none of which were injured.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The incident prompted a notification to be sent to neighbors, asking residents to shelter in place.
The message was intended to be sent to residents in the immediate area of the shooting but was sent to residents in various areas of Waukesha County.
The Waukesha Police Department is investigating the shooting.
