Reckless driving on Lincoln Memorial Drive in Milwaukee has become a big problem, but lately, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is targeting speeders along the lakefront.

“We’re not hiding, we’re right out in the open. We just want everyone to slow down,” said Sergeant Bret Myers.

Myers said deputies are stationed along Lincoln Memorial Drive especially around the morning and evening rush. The enforcement is part of an on-going initiative by the sheriff's office and state patrol to crack down on reckless driving.

The focus is not just Lincoln Memorial Drive. Speeding on the freeways in Milwaukee County is still a huge issue.

New numbers from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office show from February 22 to 28, 83 drivers were caught going anywhere from 20 to 24 miles per hour over the speed limit. Nineteen drivers received tickets for hitting higher speeds.

The sheriff's office says for the time being, expect to see deputies enforcing the speed limit.

“Getting them to understand that reckless driving and speeding causes accidents, causing people to get injured,” said Myers.
