MILWAUKEE -- All the single ladies! You are one of the fastest growing buyer in Milwaukee's housing market.

We met a recent buyer, Deirdra Peterson, who tells TODAY'S TMJ4 she realized three years ago, rent was far more expensive than owning.

"When you're paying 600 dollars for rent, and I'm paying less than that owning a home, it is worth the value," said Peterson.

It took a lot of patience for Deirdra to become a homeowner.

She used classes with Housing Resources Inc. to get financially prepared. Her biggest piece of advice is to spend a year improving your credit.

Looking at the data from the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors, she is not alone. In 2015 17 percent of the homebuying population were single women in our area. That is compared to eight percent of single men.

Last year, single women climbed to 19 percent of homebuyers, while single men went down to seven percent.
