Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin is tired of seeing the dairy state lose its dairy farms.

Since the beginning 2017, Wisconsin has lost more than 1,300 dairy farms due to low prices and market instability. Sen. Baldwin has asked the Trump Administration to prioritize the implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill, which would expand support for dairy producers and provide more flexible, affordable coverage options through the Dairy Margin Coverage program.

“The situation for dairy farmers is urgent,” Sen. Baldwin said. “Although Dairy Margin Coverage is effective as of January 1, 2019, the government shutdown delayed action on 2018 Farm Bill implementation for over a month. During this time, dairy farmers have continued to face market instability and are struggling to survive the fourth year of sustained low prices.”

According to early analysis, the bill would provide financial tools to dairy farmers. The letter to the Trump Administration was also signed by 37 fellow U.S. Senators.
