Lake effect snow has brought a dusting up to an inch or more in some spots but the snow showers will be diminishing by 7 p.m. then it will be mostly cloudy with a very slim chance of snow just before midnight as a warm front moves in. This warm front will increase the temperatures overnight and ramp up the wind from the south at 10-20 mph.

Tuesday starts out dry for the morning commute but the clouds will be increasing as snow approaches from the west, this should be into our area by the noon hour. Snow becomes widespread throughout the afternoon with the potential for a transition over to freezing rain and sleet south of Milwaukee by the evening commute. Folks north of Milwaukee, in the Winter Storm Watch, will see all snow from this so expect 4-6" of a wetter, sticky snow there. Milwaukee will see 2-4" of snow with less than 2" where rain and freezing rain is expected closer to the Illinois border with high temperatures close to 32 degrees. As temperatures fall overnight everyone will see light snow again, tapering off by 6 a.m. Wednesday morning with decreasing clouds throughout the day and temperatures falling into the mid-20s.

Thursday will be a crisp January day with a high of 20 degrees under partly cloudy skies. A cold front swings through late in the day, touching off a few flurries but this will bring a blast of cold air for Friday. Temperatures will start below zero on Friday morning and only climb up to five degrees, add in the breeze and wind chills will be approaching dangerous levels: -10 to -20 degrees. Some improvement is expected Saturday with some light snow and highs at least in the teens.
