WEST ALLIS — Nearly a dozen students affected after a school bus hits multiple vehicles and crashes in a garage outside a West Allis elementary school. The children were not injured, but the bus driver had to be taken to the hospital.
The bus lost control in front of Horace Mann Elementary School just as classes finish for the day. It ran into the car in front of it first.
"He smashed right into her car," said Samantha Kullas who witnessed the crash as she was picking up her son from school. "My instinct was to call 911 right away. My main concern was for these kids."
Police said the bus crashed first into this red Chevvy sedan.
"He smashed right into her. And then he was kind of dragging her," said Kullas.
According to the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District bus hit other vehicles including a cab that transports students to and from school. The bus ended up driving right into a garage across the street from the elementary school. The woman living in the home said she came outside to chaos.
The bus ended up in the garage. The woman living there says she walked out to chaos.
"The platform of it is here in front of the house and the garage is there," said Kristen Hughes pointing to her moved garage. "It has been pushed back substantially. There is a car behind the garage and that's what the garage is leaning on."
In total 10 students were involved in the crash, none of them were seriously hurt. The bus driver was injured and taken to the hospital.
"It is very scary to see this," said Kullas.
West Allis Police said the driver told them there was some sort of malfunction. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
