Is House Speaker Paul Ryan serious about not running for president?
With uncertainty surrounding the GOP ticket, the Wisconsin Republican has insisted numerous times he has no interest in the job, but count “Saturday Night Live” amongst those who think Ryan’s protestations are disingenuous.
SNL released a Ryan for President campaign ad online Wednesday that appears to have hit the cutting room from last Saturday’s show.
The ad starts out with the Ryan character, portrayed by Taran Killam, insisting that he’s not interested in the job, and then morphing into a candidate who sounds very much like he’s running for president.
“[America needs] someone young and dynamic with a sick body and a decent face. Someone with a full head of his own hair and a devilish little forelock, and long, muscular fingers — fingers that know what they’re doing.”
“I already have a job to do, and that is to be the best Speaker of the House I can be. A job I swore I would never ever take and then I did. But c’mon, that was six months ago, I would never do something like that now.”
In a statement at the Republican National Committee earlier this month, Ryan said if the party can't choose a nominee on the first ballot, the eventual choice should only be a candidate who participated in the primaries.
