Valentine's Day has passed, but that won't stop LOVE from being prominently displayed in Milwaukee this summer.
Artist Robert Indiana's famous LOVE sculpture will be installed this Friday outside of Northwestern Mutual's Tower and Commons on Wisconsin Avenue, as part of the 2018 Sculpture Milwaukee project.
“We’re thrilled to bring Robert Indiana’s work to the 2018 installation,” said Marilu Knode, project director for Sculpture Milwaukee. “Indiana has had a long affinity with the city and I’m certain Milwaukeeans will be delighted to see his work in the public realm again.”
The sculpture will be free to the viewing public and the display will be open from June to Oct. 21, 2018.
The 89-year-old artist has history in Milwaukee. He produced the floor of the famous MECCA arena, a pop art masterpiece that gave Milwaukee a signature style.
Indiana's work is featured in the Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as well as, various other galleries across the world.
But the 1960s pop artist won't be the only artist featured this summer on Wisconsin Avenue.
21 works by 22 artists will be on display beginning May 10 and will be available for purchase with a percentage of the funds going toward future Milwaukee art installations.
