A model of a Ring doorbell camera is being recalled after customers reported some of the units igniting and, in some cases, causing burns to users during installation.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announcedTuesday that users should immediately stop installing the recalled video doorbells and contact Ring for new installation instructions, which can be found here.

The recall is of the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), model number 5UM5E5 smart doorbell cameras. CPSC describes the model as having a blue ring at the front, and coming in two colors, 'satin nickel,' which is black and silver, and 'venetian bronze,' also known as black and bronze. The models were sold with a mounting bracket and a USB charging cable.

Ring says it has received 85 reports of incorrect doorbell screws being installed, with 23 of those doorbells igniting, resulting in "minor property damage." Rings adds that it has also received eight reports of "minor burns."

About 350,000 units of the model have been purchased, mostly in the U.S.

You can contact Ring by calling 800-656-1918 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT, seven days a week, or at www.Ring.com and click on Help then on Installation Services.
