A pregnant woman and a man face numerous charges after police say they were caught doing heroin in a bathroom stall of a Mount Pleasant Piggly Wiggly grocery store.
A sheriff's deputy was called to the store at 5201 Washington Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of shoplifting.
According to the criminal complaint, the deputy entered the female bathroom and discovered Stephanie Creech pulling a needle out of her hand "as if she was injecting herself with a drug."
"Both parties appeared to be lethargic and slow to respond. Creech did have fresh injection marks on her right hand, where I observed her taking the needle from," the deputy said in the report.
Authorities say they found stolen items in the stall, four capped needles in Creech's purse -- one with a clear liquid inside -- a burned spoon wrapped in tin foil, three clear baggies, a set of tweezers and a piece of foil with small amounts of cotton inside that the deputy believed to be heroin and heroin residue.
Officials say the substance was later tested and determined to be heroin.
Creech, 29, and Jamie Brooks, 32, were taken into custody. Creech reportedly told police she was six months pregnant and was trying to break her addiction to heroin, according to the complaint.
Both individuals have criminal records and face multiple charges, include possession of narcotic drugs, posession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor retail theft.
