Shots fired by Port Washington man leads to standoff with Ozaukee County SWAT Team

Suspect reportedly suicidal before standoff

The Ozaukee County SWAT team was locked in a six hour standoff with an Port Washington man, who had reportedly fired his handgun while shouting suicidal remarks Sunday night. 

The Port Washington Police Department had originally responded but requested the SWAT team to assist.

After a number of attempts to to communicate with the suspect had gone nowhere over the course of several hours, the SWAT team fired pepper spray into the apartment. The officers then entered the apartment  to take the 48-year-old suspect into custody. 

The suspect, who was not named in the Port Washington Police Department's news release Monday, was transported to a local hospital for treatment after being exposed to pepper spray.
