Burlington Police Chief Mark Anderson and Racine County officials are recommending that residents along the Fox River, particularly in Burlington, evacuate before the river crests Thursday.
The chief of police made the recommendation late Wednesday night after a curfew had been issued for residents to stay in their homes and off the roads. He said if residents are on the roads to evacuate, “...we won’t stand in your way.”
“If they are able to evacuate, we encourage to them to evacuate,” the chief said.

Burlington Mayor Jeannie Hefty said the town has requested assistance from the National Guard after midnight, along with the Red Cross, the Department of Natural Resources and dive teams ready to help as well.
“We are ready for anything that is going to come at us,” Hefty said.
