Police: Puppy thrown off Janesville bridge story a hoax

Posted

Janesville police debunked a story of a “young person” throwing a puppy off a bridge.

On Friday, police told our sister station WISC-TV that after investigating a report of a puppy being thrown off the Memorial Bridge on Wednesday afternoon, officers interviewed the man who claimed to witness the ordeal, who told officers it was fabricated.

A man claimed he was fishing in the Rock River whenhe saw someone throw the dog off the river, and brought him to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin.

The humane society examined the dog and didn’t find any physical or emotional trauma.

The incident was not reported to police, and the man said the story was made up to avoid paying the humane society a fee to surrender the dog.

Because there were no false statements, there won’t be criminal charges.
