JANESVILLE, Wis. - Police have identified the Janesville man they believe may have fallen into the Rock River Saturday evening, WISC-TV is reporting.

The missing man is 21-year-old Dakota R. Giese, who was seen in the river on the west side near the Mineral Point trailhead, police said.

As crews search the river Sunday morning, police are treating their investigation as a missing person case.

Police are looking for any information that would place him in the area other than the river.

At 6:46 p.m. Saturday, Janesville police officers and firefighters were sent to the Rock River north of the Centerway Bridge.  A witness saw a man fall into the river.
The witness last saw the man in the middle of the river, where he went under and didn't resurface.

The Janesville Fire Department put boats in the water and requested assistance from the Rock County Sheriff's Department Dive Team.

After using sonar and divers to search in the area where the man was last seen, authorities had to suspend their search at 9:30 p.m. due to nightfall and poor river conditions, police said.

Police said there is no evidence of foul play.  The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Janesville Police Department at (608) 755-3100 or the Janesville Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 756-3636.
