ELM GROVE — Police have identified a man who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Saturday.

The Elm Grove Police Department says 50-year-old Jose Hernandez was crossing Bluemound Road after exiting a county bus when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound.

Police say when Hernandez got off the bus, he crossed Bluemound Road from the north side to the median divider. He then left the median divider and was walking between stopped vehicles in the turn lane, and then suddenly attempted to run across the two lanes of eastbound traffic, at a location where a marked crosswalk did not exist, when he hit by the vehicle.

Officers say Hernandez was a longtime employee of Westmoor Country Club, which isn't far from the scene of the accident.

The driver of the striking vehicle stayed at the scene of the crash is cooperating with investigators, police said. Police say speed was not a factor, and no citations have been issued.
