APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- Appleton police have released the names of an officer and a bystander who were shot by a shoplifting suspect who then killed himself with the officer's gun.
Police say Officer Stephanie Wiener and 23-year-old Andrew Maltbey of Appleton were shot with Wiener's gun during a struggle with suspect Marcus Felton. The 23-year-old Felton, of Appleton, then fatally shot himself in the head.
WLUK-TV reports Wiener was released from the hospital Tuesday. She has been with the Appleton Police Department since January 2015.
Maltbey was one of two men who saw Wiener and Felton struggling and stopped to help. He was released from the hospital on Sunday.
Authorities say the shooting happened early Saturday after Felton allegedly stole cigarettes from two gas stations.
The Green Bay Police Department is investigating.
