Milwaukee police officers found a man shot and killed in the 3100 block of Wisconsin Avenue Monday just after 7 a.m.

The man, who has not yet been publicly identified, was found with several gunshot wounds, according to police.

The shooting happened just two doors down from Marquette University High School. Office staff told TMJ4 that additional security measures were not necessary as police investigated the shooting, but said the doors to the school are always locked and monitored.

Police say they are still seeking an unknown suspect and are still investigating the incident's circumstances.

Several neighbors who live near the scene of the crime said they were surprised to see the crime scene on Monday morning.

"I didn’t hear nothing this morning or last night," said Matthew Johnson, who lives across the street from the building that was surrounded with crime scene tape. "I live right across the street but I didn’t know anybody was dead over there."

Another resident, Janae Hudson, said she had never seen anything like this in her neighborhood.

"I pray whoever family it is, I pray just for justice and I give them my remorse," said Hudson.

Police did not give any additional details about their investigation and are asking anyone who might have information to call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360, or Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS.
