Nearly half of the students at Milwaukee Area Technical College have, or have dealt with, food insecurity at some point in their college career, according to a study by the college.
Now, MATC is working with Milwaukee-based grocer Pete’s Fruit Market to fight food insecurity among its students. MATC said in a study almost 50% of its students go hungry and nearly 20% are homeless.
MATC’s “FAST Fund” program and Pete’s partnership will allow qualifying students dealing with hardships the opportunity to receive a discount on grocery purchases at Pete’s.
The Pete’s partnerships is an addition to the already-existing “Fast Fund” program which helps students deal with various hardships.
