MILWAUKEE-- A suspect is in custody after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase Saturday morning on Interstate 43, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. It started on Milwaukee’s south-side and ended in Glendale with both the suspect and a deputy injured.
The incident started just midnight when deputies attempted to pull over an erratic driver speeding on I-43 northbound near 6th Street.
Scanner traffic reveals that the car continued to pick up speed, driving north through Milwaukee, reaching nearly 130 miles per hour at times.
When the pursuit approached Silver Spring Drive, Glendale police put down stop sticks, causing the car to slow down and finally come to stop on I-43 North at Daphne Road.
The sheriff’s office said that the suspect then got out of the car and ran away.
Deputies chased after the suspect, quickly taking the person into custody. Both the suspect and a deputy suffered minor injuries along the way.
The suspect faces charges of fleeing, recklessly endangering safety and resisting/obstructing an officer.
Bobby Sanford, lives off Port Washington Road in Glendale, and woke up to the sound of sirens blaring from squad cars. Dash-cams on a car driving by, captured the scene as one after another sped up I-43.
“It went on for about 10 or 15 minutes nonstop sirens,” Sanford said. “I actually thought somebody was in my yard, the way my dog was barking.”
Now that he knows what happened, Sanford hopes this driver and others on the road can learn something from this.
“Have some type of sensibility for other people,” Sanford said.
