MILWAUKEE, WI -  The Milwaukee Fire Department is investigating an overnight fire that burned a home then spread to the house next door on Milwaukee's east side. It happened on Cambridge Avenue near North Avenue just after 2 am.

“One of our neighbors was like, ‘Hey man you gotta get out,'" Drew Haynes said. "[He said], 'Your house is on fire, do you have any pets.'"

The couple was able to safely leave their unit in the home they had recently moved into last month —later salvaging the few items that weren’t destroyed in the flames.

“[We] got a few pieces of clothing we’re hoping we can salvage," Annie-Laurie Setten said. "Got out with a computer, an iPad and both of his cell phones yesterday. So, we've got some stuff."

A neighbor was also kind enough to take the couple in overnight —and now the Red Cross is working to lend a helping hand. MFD confirmed at least ten people were displaced, but they’re still working to determine a cause.
