MILWAUKEE, WI - Once considered the bridge to nowhere—the Hoan is getting a facelift as the “Light the Hoan” project officially launches live for the first time Thursday at 7:00 pm.

“We love Milwaukee and every night we go to bed, the skyline goes to bed with us,” Ian Abston said.

But now after three years of planning and collecting donations the bridge is equipped with thousands of LED lights, and temporarily, at least until Friday, doesn’t have to.

“Big metro areas around the world are lighting up their skyline because they see what it does to the community. It’s inspirational, it’s vibrant at night,” Abston said.

“Light the Hoan” wants to bring some of that big city glitz and glam to Milwaukee, but it’ll cost $5 million to light the entire bridge. Tonight the lights go on for just a portion —live syncing to tonight's Bucks game. Each time the Bucks make a basket or there's a big play in the game, the lights will respond accordingly.

Ally Plump lives near the Hoan. She said she can’t wait to check it out.

“We love the Bucks. So, [this is] really cool. Really excited to see how it turns out," Plump said.
