One fatality in New Year's Day crash, alcohol suspected to play role

One person has died as a result of a vehicle crash early Wednesday morning.

Milwaukee police say a vehicle was traveling southbound at high rates of speed in the 4300 block of North 35th Street about 2:55 a.m. when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle traveling northbound.

A 27-year-old Manitowoc woman inside the car that was struck passed away on the scene, while a 28-year-old Manitowoc man who was also in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

One person inside the striking vehicle was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the driver of the striking vehicle, a 44-year-old Milwaukee man, did not possess a valid drivers license and has been arrested. Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash.
