RACINE — Racine Police are investigating a deadly shooting after a 19-year-old was killed Wednesday night near 12th and Center Street.

“I’m just kind of shocked that it happened right here on this block because we don’t have that type of thing happening here,” neighbor Clifton Bryant said.

Racine Police responded to the 1200 block of Center Street just after 8 p.m. for reports of shots fired. The victim, a 19-year-old man, was shot and rushed to the hospital, but he later died. Bryant, who has lived in the neighborhood for a year, said he still can’t believe this happened so close to home.

“I hear about it happening in other places like Milwaukee or something, but not here," Bryant said. "This is normally a low-key place."

Police are asking for the public’s help. If you witnessed the shooting or have credible information, call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at 262-635-7756.
