MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee Public Schools location was placed on lockdown Friday after a threat was made to a staff member.

Green Tree Preparatory Academy was secured just before class was scheduled to begin, after someone made a threat to a staffer about harming students and teachers, according to an MPS official.

"Teachers and Staff responded quickly to ensure the safety of all," an MPS spokesperson said in a statement.

Students who arrived at the school were immediately taken to a safe location. Students who were en route to school on buses were taken to Clara Barton Elementary, the school said.

The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating the incident.

Students who were transported to Clara Barton Elementary have returned to Green Tree, where instruction will continue as normal.

School officials will continue to monitor the situation to ensure all students and staff remain safe, authorities said.
