MILWAUKEE — An Uber ride turned deadly early Friday morning after Milwaukee police said a stolen car crashed into it.

Around 1:30 a.m., two minors driving a stolen car slammed into an Uber driver's car near S 21st Street and W Orchard Street, MPD said. The stolen car was being followed by police.

A 22-year-old woman riding in the Uber was killed. Four other people, including the minors, suffered minor injuries.

"It just sounded, like, horrendous. It just sounded like a big loud bang," said Jose Zamano who lives nearby.

Even at 1:30 in the morning neighbors said it was hard to ignore what happened.

"We got up, by the time we got down here, we saw this person laying down on the street, smoke coming out of the car," neighbor Billy Sandoval said.

"Stuck my head out the window. When I was looking out the window, noticed cops with guns drawn," Joe January said.

Uber sent a statement saying, “Our thoughts are with rider’s family and everyone affected by this devastating crash.“

"I’ve had family deaths around my area so I feel sorry for the family who has to go through this. I really do," January said.

Milwaukee police took the two minors into custody. They have not released information on their ages or charges.

The victim has been identified as Cristian Hernandez from Milwaukee.
