MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Police have arrested 26-year-old Devante Marquise Randall on the 2200 Block of W. Hopkins Ave.

Randall has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide, neglecting a child - consequence is death, physical abuse of a child (intentional causation of bodily harm) and neglecting a child - consequence is bodily harm.

On April 22, Randall reportedly was watching his girlfriend's kids while she was at work. He claims he was at a family member's house when shots were fired and, in trying to take the children away from the situation, he fell and dropped both of them.

Both children were transported to Children's Hospital with severe injuries. The 5-month-old child was found pulseless and not breathing upon examination at the hospital.

A CT scan revealed that the child had sustained a brain bleed and skull fracture, causing significant brain damage, according to police.

The child was given three brain death examinations. In each case, there were no signs of brain activity. He was announced dead as a result of his significant brain injuries.

The other child, 2-years-old, sustained bruising and spinal and leg fractures. Doctors determined the child's injuries not consistent with Randall's story of a fall. The child's injuries are being diagnosed as child physical abuse, according to the criminal complaint.

Randall is a 26-year-old black male, 5 ft. 7 in.-tall and 125 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

He faces up to $120,000 in fines, over 90 years in prison or both upon conviction.
