Milwaukee police are searching for a “known” suspect after a shooter killed two men and injured another on Milwaukee’s north side.

It happened Thursday night just before 11:30 p.m. at an apartment building on the 4200 block of North 27th Street.

The name of the man who was shot but survived has not been released. Milwaukee police did, however, release the names of the two homicide victims, 20-year-old Malyk Smith and 34-year-old Romale Richardson.

Public records show Smith lived at the apartment where the double homicide happened.

TODAY'S TMJ4 spoke with Rita Evans. She has three children with Richardson.

“I’ve been doing a lot of crying real life like I just don’t understand. Why is there so much killing? I don’t really understand what’s going on,” said Evans.

Evans said she got the call Richardson was killed while she was in the car with her children ages 9, 11 and 14.

“They were just crying really hard. The only thing I can do is just pray," Evans said.

Evans said she doesn’t know Smith and wasn’t aware if Richardson did either.

Two officers responding to the triple shooting Thursday night were hurt when someone crashed into a squad car on the scene. Milwaukee police say the officers were treated at the hospital but released.

Police haven’t said how or why this shooting happened. It’s an open investigation as they continue to search for the shooter.

Evans is now a single parent raising her three children.

“He’s an excellent dad he does a lot with his kids he spends time with his kids...to my kids, he’s like the world," she said.

Including these two murders, Milwaukee police told TODAY'S TMJ4 so far the city has had 16 homicides in 2018.
