MILWAUKEE — Messmer Catholic Schools, along with the United States Marines’ Toys for Tots program, gave away toys and Christmas gifts to about 650 Messmer Catholic School families at Messmer High School Wednesday morning.

The event was a COVID-19-safe drive-thru distribution. Families were greeted by Santa as Marines loaded the trunks of the vehicles with the toys.

The principal of Messmer High School, Shenora Jordan, said this year has been difficult for students and their families, some of them have lost their jobs due to the pandemic, but she hopes this brings the families some joy.

"It is our hope and my dream to make sure that students walk away with a little bit of hope and inspiration for Christmas Day," said Jordan.

Along with the toys, families were also given cookie kits so the children can leave out cookies for Santa on Christmas Day.
