MILWAUKEE — On Thursday, a one-of-a-kind birthday celebration was held for a one-of-a-kind woman at Milwaukee Catholic Home, an assisted living center.

Trudy Klapperich turned 107-years-old and to help celebrate the milestone, five generations of family members stopped by to bring her presents and wish her a happy birthday.

“I never thought I would get this far. I never even thought I could get to be 100,” said Trudy.

Trudy even got a surprise special visit from members of the Milwaukee Fire Department.

“I appreciate your appearance,” Trudy told the firefighters.

She said all the balloons and attention were too much.

“I’m supposed to be humble and meek and you're not helping me,” said Trudy.

At 107, she still lives a very active lifestyle. She loves to crochet and enjoys playing volleyball with her girlfriends but what Trudy loves the most is her family.

“Yes, I’m so surprised! Yes, they are just wonderful,” said Trudy.

Trudy said she was happy to see everyone’s smiling faces and when asked what the secret is to living a long life, she attributed it to love and faith.

“All I can say is the truth. I started taking my spiritual life seriously, that’s when things started to change for me and I think God was pleased with me,” said Trudy.

Trudy planned to spend the rest of her birthday with friends and loved ones.
