Milwaukee police identify off-duty officer arrested after fight leaves man seriously injured

The Milwaukee Police Department has identified the off-duty police officer involved in a fight that left a 25-year-old Milwaukee man seriously injured.

Authorities said that they were called to investigate a battery complaint about 7:40 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of 45th & Cleveland. When officers got to the scene, the 25-year-old man was found unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital where he remains in serious condition.

Police say 32-year-old Michael Mattioli was taken into custody. The department says Mattioli is a 13-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department and has been placed on full suspension.

Mattioli is being held at the Milwaukee County Jail on the following charges:

  1. 1st Degree Reckless Injury (Class D Felony)
  2. Strangulation and Suffocation (Class H Felony)
