MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee Police Department K9 is retiring after eight years of service.

K9 Rocky has been serving the Milwaukee community for eight years but at the end of the month, he will retire.

According to MPD, K9 Rocky came from Germany in 2012 and since then has been a strong and social canine. He took part in many demos with kids and apprehended many homicide suspects. Rocky could turn it off and on with a German command.

K9 Rocky's owner, Officer Burger, learned how to be a handler from Rocky and they always had each others backs. Now, as a 9-year-old dog, Officer Burger hopes Rocky will have a long retirement.

Rocky may be retiring, but his job isn't done. As a retired K9, Rocky will step into his new role of protecting Officer Burger and his wife in addition to teaching Burger's new partner how to be a police canine.
