DULUTH, MN -- A Milwaukee native crushed the women's marathon record at the Grandma's Marathon over the weekend.

Kellyn Taylor finished her first ever Grandma's Marathon in 2:24:28, shattering the previous record of 2:26:32 set in 2013.

Taylor, 31, also becomes the first American to win the race in nine years.

Taylor hopes this is just the start of her dominate marathons.

"I hope they see that I'm a contender. I hope they see that I'm somebody that could contend for a spot in 2020. The goal is to make the Olympic team so like I said before, the American marathoning has really taken a step up. I think in order to make that team you're going to run darn fast. I think that a 2:24 definitely puts me on the map." said Taylor.

Taylor took part in the 2017 Boston Marathon but had to drop out after she was diagnosed with hypothermia.
