Milwaukee has taken the top spot on Airbnb's list of 20 trending travel locations for 2020.
An article by the Airbnb newsroom has named Milwaukee the most trending destination for 2020 based on the year-to-year growth in bookings. Milwaukee has seen a 729% increase in bookings from Sept. 2019 to Sept. 2020.
"This historic gem on the shores of Lake Michigan often slips under the radar but has a terrific bar and restaurant scene and fascinating cultural attractions that include a Calatrava-designed art museum," says Airbnb.
Milwaukee beat out locations like Spain, Thailand, Mexico and Scotland. In the No. two spot is Bilbao, Spain, however, their growth is over 300% less than that of Milwaukee's with just 402%.
This increase in bookings is most likely thanks to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) which will take place Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16 at Fiserv Forum. Nearly half of the DNC delegations, however, will be staying out of state. The hotels closest to Fiserv Forum will go to the big names in the Democratic race such as Joe Biden (Del.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (Vt.).
