WAUWATOSA — Two Milwaukee men were arrested after prosecutors say a mother was shot seven times at close range with a handgun.

Wauwatosa police say officers found the victim injured in the area of North 94 Street and West Congress Avenue on Nov. 14. Police conclude she was shot with a 9mm handgun.

An investigation later found this was the second time the victim was a target of an attempted homicide. The first incident was in October of 2019 in Milwaukee, police say.

According to a criminal complaint Tuesday, Bryan O. Smith was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless injury, among other charges that could put him up to life in prison, if found guilty.

Cory D. Smith was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to deliver THC, stalking resulting in bodily harm and several counts of bail jumping, which could land him in prison for several decades, if convicted.

Police arrested Bryan and Cory Smith on search warrants, as well as recovered three firearms, including a high-capacity assault rifle.

The complaint states Cory Smith is the father of the victim's child.
